Lena Whitmore School History

Our building was originally constructed in 1952. Lena Whitmore Elementary School was originally named after a well loved teacher within the Moscow School District by the name of, Ms. Lena Whitmore.  Miss Whitmore was a veteran teacher who served the students of our community with distinction for 48 years until her retirement in 1950.

Though Ms. Whitmore has passed on, her rich legacy of providing her students with a wealth of educational information and character attributes continues on.  While schools & programs have evolved since her employment with us, our focus on providing the best educational opportunities for our students remains unchanged.

School violence, poor attendance and disrespectful behavior are simply not tolerated by the Moscow School District’s School Board Policy. At Lena, we seek to create a strong sense of ownership and academic accomplishment among our students to include, the cultivation of student creativity, initiative, leadership, responsibility, citizenship and community service.

Lena Whitmore Elementary is a neighborhood school located in east-central Moscow.  We share our site with a city park and are located at 110 South Blaine Street here in Moscow.  Our school’s enrollment includes two classes at every grade level from kindergarten to 6th grade.  We typically enjoy an enrollment of approximately 300 students and average about 22 children per classroom.  Our students enjoy a full range of curricular opportunities within the building and are supported by a librarian, numerous volunteers, several instructional aides, specialists in music, physical education, gifted education, special education, speech, counseling and school psychology.  We try to keep abreast of instructional technology and enjoy a wonderful library and three computer labs. Our school phone number is (208) 882-1120.
