New Kids Group
The purpose of the New Kids group is to acquaint new transfer students with each other, help them to feel comfortable in this new setting, and become familiar with the school and community. The group meets for a minimum of three times.
Ambassadors
A primary purpose of the Ambassador program is to assist new students in feeling welcome at MJHS. This involves helping new students find their classroom, showing them how to buy lunch tickets, eating with or introducing them to someone to each with during lunch on the first day, and assisting with any of their questions or concerns. Ambassadors also aid the office staff by distributing materials to the student body. Ambassadors in the eighth grade attend a Youth for Justice conference. This conference serves as a starting point to develop a yearlong project to improve the school climate. In the ninth grade Ambassadors participate in an exchange program with Jennifer Junior High School, in Lewiston. The exchange involves visiting and being a host to students from the other school. Other leadership responsibilities are added as needed. In the past Ambassadors have planted trees, assisted in local nursing homes, and decorated school halls. |
