To determine personality types and career interest that are most suitable for students, counselors present a two day classroom unit, typically in the 9th grade.  The unit uses the Self Directed Search Interest Inventory and explores specific careers within identified clusters.  Students are encouraged to explore further options with the CIS (Career Information System) program.
  MJHS school counselors provide a three day classroom unit, typically in the fall for 7th grade students, which consists of defining harassment, especially sexual harassment, reviewing the causes of harassment and exploring solutions to prevent harassment.  The goal is to develop an awareness of harassment, i.e. racial, religious, cultural, and sexual so that harassment discontinues.

The purpose of this eighth grade unit is to understand how violence and victimization can affect students. The students will be able to identify situations where teens may be putting their safety at risk. They will analyze why people are targeted by predators and will discuss plans for safety and protection. In the eighth grade students develop parent-approved student learning plans for their high school and post high school options.  The development of the learning plan begins with a parent night where counselors present information to the parents.  Following the parent meeting counselors enter the classroom to guide students in their plan development.  The purpose of the parent approved learning plan is to outline a course of study and learning activities for students to become contributing member of society.  A student learning plan describes, at a minimum, the list of courses and learning activities in which the student will engage while working toward meeting the district's graduation standards.
