About
Me
Welcome to McDonald School Kindergarten! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as your child’s Kindergarten teacher. My name is Nikki Cox and I am very excited to be a part of your child’s education here at McDonald School.
The last four years I have had an enjoyable experience teaching Kindergarten. Before entering the Moscow School District, I taught first grade for the Whitepine School district. I am originally from Lewiston and attended my first few years of college at North Idaho College on a cheerleading scholarship. Eventually, I did graduate from the University of Idaho with a Bachelors of Science degree in Elementary Education in the spring of 1999. I just got married this last summer, so some of you may still know me as Miss Gertonson. I am still getting used to the change. During the school day, I hear my name frequently, so I am learning to respond to it quicker. J
Kindergarten is a very special time for young children. If the anticipation and excitement that kindergartners bring to school could be “bottled and sold,” we could all be rich! It is my goal to help your child establish a solid sense of security within the classroom and school environment, and to develop positive self-esteem and enthusiasm for learning. I strongly believe that “learning is fun” and I believe in challenging the students to work to their full potential. Although each child will proceed at his/her own pace, I will still meet all of the children’s needs through flexibility and open-ended planning. I have had a wide range of skills and abilities within previous classes while each child still developed, learned and grew.
Each day your child will spend time sharing, listening, learning and playing. Kindergarten is a vital element in the educational taxonomy. It teaches children when they are ready to learn a vast array of skills and concepts that are essential to all later living and learning. As you know from your own experience, one does not learn a new skill such as football, sewing or reading in a day, a week or even a year. Each step in the process of learning the skill is important. Please remember that learning new skills is like constructing a building. . .you need a solid foundation and that takes time, work and patience.
I am very excited about being here and want to make it a challenging and rewarding experience for both your child and me. If you have any questions, concerns, and/or comments, please feel free to call me here at the school and/or email me. School # 882-0228 email – gert2245@yahoo.com
