Library
Fines
Students are responsible for the
reasonable care and prompt return of books and library materials they borrow.
MJH Library imposes no overdue fines for late books and materials. However,
students cannot check out anything until all overdue items are returned or
renewed. Students must bring any library material with them to renew.
MJH Library will hold books for five school days for a student who already has
five books checked out or for a student with overdue library materials. After
five days, the book is taken off the hold shelf and becomes available for others to check out.
Students are responsible for books and materials
they have borrowed. They need to pay the cost of the missing or damaged
item plus $2.00 for processing. Students pay
only bindery costs if a damaged book can
be repaired rather than replaced.

Using the
Library during ACCESS
- Sign up in the library
anytime Monday-Wednesday to come to the library during Thursday's ACCESS
period. Students can read, study in small groups at tables, take AR quizzes,
and use computers for school work. They may listen to music with ear buds.
Students with LIBRARY ACCESS passes need to bring their work
materials with them when they arrive for ACCESS. They need remain in the
library until the end of school. There is a sign-out sheet for emergency
restroom visits.
- Students from other ACCESS
classrooms may come to the library for 15 minutes to take AR quizzes, use
computer to do school work, select and check out books. After 15 minutes,
these students will return to their regular ACCESS classrooms.
- Library functions for
students, such as AR celebrations and special programs, will be held occasionally during ACCESS.
Electronic Access
Using
the OPAC to Select Appropriate
Websites
Go to the OPAC (online public access catalog) on our
Library Web page,
http://www.sd281.k12.id.us/mjhslibrary/other_libraries.htm
, and follow instructions there to see titles of books and media in our
library. To go to excellent Internet sites about any topic, enter a subject or
keyword and click on the blue icon in the results list, and then click on ELEC
ACCESS, This list of first-rate sites has been evaluated for grade-level
appropriateness and is updated monthly.
Using Online
Databases from Home
Access, read, and print full-text articles from
numerous online databases, provided by Lili (Libraries
Linking Idaho). All these
databases and eBooks are print sources accessed through the Internet. They are not Internet
sites. Go to Research Links at the MJHS Library Web
page to begin. The user name and password for all our
students are listed in their Student Agenda. Everyone in your family is
encouraged to use these databases.
Library Media Center
The Library Media Center is an integral
part of the educational program at MJHS. Students have access to a wide variety
of resources with reading levels 2.5 through 12+. The
librarian's job is to prepare our
students to be learners for the 21st century and to become effective users of
information and ideas. The library staff
helps students and staff in an environment conducive
to learning, provides appropriate and adequate
information resources, and models the behavior of
lifelong readers and learners.

Library and Library Computer Center
(LCC) Use Procedures
Class Group Use
The Library (main hall) and the
Library Computer Center
(LCC) are busy places. Teachers can sign up and hold class in
the main hall or in the LCC. The LCC and the main hall are filled on a first
come, first served basis. No more than two class groups may share
both rooms, along
with drop-in students. The sign-up sheet for the main room
and the LCC is located on the
checkout counter. Teachers can reserve one room, or one-half of each room. A
five-day limit of the LCC is preferred for each classroom project because of
limited computer access in the building.
Individual/Small Group Use
Teachers may reserve up to five spaces for
students on a first come, first served basis unaccompanied by their teacher.
Students are responsible for their own behavior in the
Library and the LCC. Students
are greeted as they enter the room, asked if they need help, and asked what they
will be working on. Students who are off-task or interfere with others
are asked to resume working, and if they cannot, they are told to return to the
regular classroom. Teachers may also send individual students for make-up
quizzes and tests. The student will turn in the completed test/quiz to library
staff and the library staff will return work completed to the teacher mailbox at
the end of each school day unless the teacher sends a written request with the
student to do otherwise.
