The Limited English Proficiency Program is designed to help ensure that all children have the opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach proficiency on challenging state academic standards and assessments regardless of native language. Moscow School District funds a full-time teaching position dedicated to ensuring our students all learn English. State and federal funding allocations are based on the number of students who enter our district who are non-English or limited-English speaking. The state or federal funds help with supplies, materials and professional development. Sometimes we have enough funding to enable the district to hire a part-time instructional aide who helps our LEP teacher.
We have had many students representing many different languages and cultures enter our system. It is wonderful to have such cultural diversity! All schools in the district derive benefit from our LEP teacher who travels as needed to provide services to students throughout the district. We are very proud of the success of our LEP Program.
