Our educational system exists to fulfill the needs of individuals and the aspirations of society for human resources. We must prepare citizens who are capable of asserting our cultural values and of renewing our culture as the wisdom and needs for renewal indicate. Schools so designed must educate and reward children in ways consistent with our highest aspirations and in ways that are creative, innovative, challenging, and fulfilling. Such education must develop the whole child, and not focus on academic attainments alone. Our schools must nurture youth who can perform in our economy, take pride in their schools, be loyal to the nation, and serve the community. (5-3-01)
